Artist Feature: Tim Saunders

Preston artist Tim Saunders is a self taught artist and has worked with ink on paper for around 18 years as Timsperspectiveart.

The sand photos were taken as lockdown restrictions were eased and we were permitted to travel again. The ‘Seek To Understand” piece was created from 250 tree saplings between 2-5am ahead of lockdown restrictions coming into force on Monday 1st June. The lockdown restrictions allowed leaving the house for essential shopping, daily exercise of 1hr or essential shopping – which would have made production of the work impossible.

We asked his to talk about his art journey and here’s what he shared:-

Art has always been a personal journey and one which I rarely share with others apart from the large scale installations I completed as part of Oxheys Making a Mark Event.

I am always keen to support our community , and I was asked by Denise Swanson if I would like to support Oxheys in putting on the first outdoor event four years ago , it was a completely new experience and form of art for me , but I enjoyed the experience and learnt a lot about myself in the completion.

However after the first year of Making a Mark , I was proud to become a member of the Oxheys artist collective, and we as an organisation endeavor to create opportunities for artists in the city .

Making a a mark has become a major art event in the city , with more artists becoming involved each year, my installations aim to provide a new perspective on a subject , and to date I have covered , homelessness, plastics , food banks , and the environment .

This year making a mark was postponed so I carried out my installation early in the morning and posted a video and photos , as a way of keeping art alive during the lockdown , I am passionate about art being freely available and accessible, and that local artists should be supported , and have opportunities to showcase their work , this is the driving force behind my involvement in Oxheys , and a passion shared by the other members.

I am passionate about Preston and it’s communities and I am also involved in the something for everyone music community , set up and run by Jon Aveyard.
