Ascent of the Moth director, Damilola Lemomu, is an emerging visual artist using video, photography and archive to explore stories from underrepresented communities in the UK.

Ascent of the Moth, is a portrait documentary film centred on three black male-identifying artists using their creative practices as a window to share personal experiences on race, masculinity and mental health.

She has worked on visual arts projects with Manchester Museum, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, Norwich University of the Arts, University of East Anglia, Rose Bruford College and has collaborated on projects that have featured in Aesthetica Short Film Festival, London Film Festival, Dazed Digital Magazine and Gold Dust. 

Her debut film Shades of Blue explored Black mental health and screened at BFI Film Academy’s SCENE 2020, Women X Festival, University of East Anglia and at a Time To Change event in Norwich.

She also created and directed short film, Promised Land, an experimental archive film that interrogates the concept of Britain as a land paved with gold and explores generational differences amongst Black and South Asian individuals in Birmingham. The film is being championed by Jarman Award nominee filmmaker Billy Dosanjh and Ian Francis, director of Flat Pack Festival where the film will receive its premiere in May 2022.
